As a company that manufactures all our tents inhouse, we welcome the challenge of a new stretch tent design.
We also welcome clients who trust us year in and year out to deliver no matter the challenge of the stretch tent design.
One such client is a massive international music festival in Hungary who, together with their local design company, strive to create something new and different each year at their event.
This year’s task was particularly challenging, so we actually invited their creative conceptualist to come out to South Africa and work with us in the factory on the design.
This also enabled him to be a part of the manufacturing as it happened which gave him a deeper understanding of the entire process from conceptualisation to end product.
Tent design challenge
The first challenge was that there were three different organisations involved which meant communication and understanding were pivotal to its success.
The festival designer created the concept, the engineering company designed the plans and ensured that everything is structurally sound, and Dimensions were tasked with producing the final product.
Because of the nature of this year’s concept we suggested the designer fly to South Africa to be involved at manufacturing level.
Hosting him in Cape Town for the duration of the manufacturing process worked perfectly.
He specialises in 3D conceptualisation using Rhino etc, so everything was systematically designed to the millimetre.
We were then able to take his designs and with small corrections to account for the manufacture technique, were able to implement his vision.
It also helped with him being here when it came time to choose a suitable colour.
Dimensions has a vast array of colour of colour options and with this job it actually changed several times before all involved agreed and what was suitable.
We suggested a darkish grey colour called Taupe which proved to be a more soothing option than the originally intended orange.
The application of the tent design
The structure was to be used for a Yoga/Healing space, so an ambient, relaxing colour was the right choice in the end, made easier by having their designer in the factory to see for himself.
The biggest manufacturing challenge was to make sure every panel fitted perfectly, as every single panel was a different size. This meant that event the slightest miscalculation would mean redoing a section since every single one was different.
Focus and attention to detail were paramount and this job proved to us once again that Dimensions manufacturing have the skills and experience to take on any stretch tent design challenge and deliver to spec.

Having their designer here afforded him the opportunity to witness first-hand his concept coming to life in the factory.
